SeaTec is pleased to announce the successful launch and delivery of two gas carriers and one Aframax tanker, with delivery of another Aframax tanker scheduled for early December 2008.
These new vessels, built for the Arab Maritime Petroleum Transport Company (AMPTC), are the result of great team work between SeaTec and AMPTC. The project started in April 2006 with SeaTec advising on specifications for the two gas carriers. Following on from this stage, plan approval took place during the summer/autumn of 2007 with steel cutting for the first (GAS ALKHALEEJ) commencing on 6th August 2007 and delivery on 3rd September 2008. The second gas carrier (OCEAN GAS) was delivered 24th October 2008, about three weeks ahead of schedule.
Steel cutting for the first Aframax tanker (ALBURAQ) took place on 17th December 2007 with delivery on 6th October 2008. This will be followed by delivery of the second Aframax tanker (SEA LEGEND) on 6th December.
The gas tankers were built at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in Mokpo in southwest Korea. Both were equipped with a Hamworthy gas plant which enables the carriage of propane, butadiene, butane, butylene and propylene in independent tanks.
The Aframax tankers are designed to carry crude oil and petroleum products and were built in Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan in eastern Korea.
Both sites were managed by SeaTec site staff with project management taking place in SeaTec Glasgow. Back up support was provided by SeaTec Shanghai whenever a quick management response was required by the owners on site.
SeaTec Repair Services Win Exclusive Global Tank Coating ContractSeaTec Repair Services have been awarded an exclusive worldwide contract by the Cleveland, Ohio-based chemical tanker coatings specialist Advanced Polymer Coatings (APC).
The contract is for the application and heat-curing of APC’s innovative MarineLINE Tank Coating Systems for chemical carriers. The contract covers both new building and recoating projects.
“The key deciding factors were our knowledge and experience in the new building and repair markets, flexible workforce, commitment to training for the application of the MarineLINE products and local management support for the application teams worldwide, all linked with ISO 9000 quality system approval by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance,” advises SeaTec Repair Services Director Adriana Caba.
The MarineLINE coating system requires a high standard of surface preparation, temperature and humidity control and final heat curing, which in many cases shipyards cannot achieve with present techniques and an increasing shortage of skilled labour.
To minimise the possibility for coating system failures APC has turned to SeaTec to offer ship owners and shipyards a turnkey solution for tank inspection, preparation, coating system supply, application and final heat cure.
